SingularDTV announced this week via Deadline that co-founder Kim Jackson will serve as President of its Entertainment Division. Alongside new hire Jason Tyrrell, a veteran entertainment distribution executive, and Michael Blieden, a Consulting Producer with a sterling resume in television, SingularDTV’s Entertainment Division will finance, produce, and distribute original programming, in addition to acquiring rights.

“We’re building a team of experienced, savvy entertainment industry leaders who want to break out of the norm of how business is done in the entertainment arena, and have the experience to know how to actually make that happen,” says Jackson, a Spirit Award-nominated producer who founded her own independent Streetwise Pictures after a period with Universal Pictures. “Being a decentralized, blockchain entertainment company, intrinsically, we are already breaking out of the traditional molds of business models, and we want to continue to support progressive, decentralized thinking in the content we produce as well as in our business structure.”

SingularDTV’s Entertainment Division will lead by example in producing original film, tv, and video formats that sits alongside the crowdfunded, user-generated content that will populate much of the SingularDTV ecosystem. “SingularDTV’s groundbreaking approach to production and distribution is radically altering the entertainment landscape, creating a new ecosystem in which creatives can operate with complete autonomy and an unprecedented degree of transparency,” Jason Tyrrell stated to ETHNews recently. “I can’t wait to share our vision with filmmakers and consumers across the world.”

“we want to support progressive, decentralized thinking in the content we produce as well as in our business structure.”

SingularDTV CEO Zach LeBeau has made no secret of his intention to destabilize the only-recently crowned kings of video content and distribution — Netflix — with SingularDTV’s pledge of a decentralized playing field, and the launch of SingularDTV’s Entertainment Division is the opening salvo of blockchain’s democratization of the entertainment industry. “Jason [Tyrrell]’s mission at SingularDTV is to help us compete with the existing and established entertainment platforms like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon by making the deals with publishers and creators to bring premium content to SingularDTV,” LeBeau explained to Cointelegraph recently.

With the core of the Entertainment Division team in place, attention has now turned to acquiring content, with a focus on ambitious stories that push boundaries. “We’re interested in projects that aren’t defined by traditional genre labels and limitations — sci-fi, new realities, underdog stories, documentaries,” says Kim Jackson. “Often, the best content is the stuff that doesn’t have a clear label, and we feel that audiences are savvy enough to appreciate a well-told story that retains creative integrity.”

This strident move into original content precipitates the long-awaited release of the first two modules of the SingularDTV ecosystem — Tokit, a rights management and project creation app, and Launchpad, a project funding app, which are in the final stages of development. Alongside the establishment of Contact Centers in Zurich, Shanghai, and Puerto Rico and the announcement of an OMG-SNGLS Airdrop, SingularDTV has emerged from its Summer “stealth mode” with major developments on every front.
