My companion, a dog named “Moose”

I have written about Penny, the Doodle in Let Me Out Please. Her best friend, and my other doggy friend, is “Moose”.

Moose is a chihuahua mix. He sees his main duty is to bark at everything. That includes airplanes flying over, birds and squirrels in the garden, people at the door, and anything that gets his attention. He is short compared to Penny with her long legs, but he seems to think that loudly barking makes up for size. It makes him the “big dog” in the pair.

He is also our visitor when we wake up in the morning. He approaches the bed, bows down with his butt up and tail wagging, waiting for his morning greeting from me. He doesn’t leave until he gets his morning “good-morning” scratches on this hairy little butt.

He is now ten years old and is slowing down a little, but he still has enough spunk and energy to bark at and chase any squirrels that wander into our garden. He is also always willing to go for all walks through the neighborhood, investigating all the odors accumulated since his last walk, and marking every tree and bush on the walk as a part of his territory. He may be small but he is determined to be the “big dog”.
