The colour physiology of everyday life.

Ever been tickled pink? Felt red-hot rage? Or maybe you have been green with envy.

For the last ten days, I have been getting the blues because I was barred from all screens and devices due to my cataract surgery.

I was stopped from reading, writing, cooking, and all the activities I like doing. I was asked to wear black sunglasses to protect my eyes from ultraviolet rays. But I was seeing red with nothing to do.

We use such colourful idioms every day!!

Colours influence all aspects of our daily lives. They impact our moods, behaviours, and emotions. Wearing a red dress can boost your confidence. Red is used to send messages of confidence and is considered the most emotional of all colours.

According to experts, three main categories define colour: Warm, cool, and Neutral, each conveying a different emotion.

India is currently celebrating the nine days Navratri festival. The festivities are filled with vibrant colours, and each day we use a different colour, each colour symbolising the distinct quality of Goddess Durga.

The list of nine Navratri colours for the year 2022,
1st Day — White- symbolises peace and purity in the heart of the devotees as they worship Goddess Durga.
2nd Day — Red- symbolises the fierce form of the Goddess.
3rd Day- Royal Blue- symbolises the Goddess’s tranquillity, depth and wisdom.
4th Day- Yellow -showing the happiness and bright traits of the Devi.
5th Day- Green- showing the growth and fertility required to be successful.
6th Day- Grey-showcasing the balance.
7th Day- Orange -symbolises radiance and energy.
8th Day- Peacock green -represents the uniqueness.
9th Day -Pink- showing love, harmony and affection.

People dress up in these colours during the festivities. They also use these colours for decorating their homes during the festival.

My friend Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles has nicely narrated the story behind the Navratri festival.

Thank you Ellie Jacobson for the great September prompt.
