There’s a Reason Why I Called Pepsi a ‘Problem Puppy’

It’s a guideline, not a rule …

This is a classic example of why Pepsi sat firmly in the problem puppy camp despite her claims that she was the perfect puppy.

No matter the instruction, she was bound to ignore it — whether it was an actual rule or just a guideline. As for licks and kisses, well, Pepsi was the Queen of Slobber.

Humor writing for children is mostly exaggeration. Pepsi provided me with plenty of fodder for my writing. However, there are moments in Pepsi the Problem Puppy where I downplayed her enormous capacity for slobbering. If Pepsi liked something, she licked it, always leaving a trail of drool in her wake.

Pepsi’s worst offenses involved books (Do Not Lick This Book got off lightly!) First, she licked a spine clean off a library book when I put it down to take a phone call. It gave her quite the hankering for books as she later licked the spines off all my Stephen King hardbacks on the bottom row of the bookcase.

Pepsi was MY problem puppy despite her shenanigans, and I wouldn’t have had her any other way!
