My soft skill topic strictly focused on humor, but because no one from other classes chose the same topic, I decided to go with a similar topic known as communication. The author, Hunter Ford talked about how he applied his soft skill and his progress in his latest blog post. He noted that general communication skills are different from verbal communication skills. I agree with this because in my last post I also talked about benefits that are achieved through both verbal and written communication- as it is both two different skills pertaining to the same category.

Ford had decided to tackle this skill by taking over The Buffalo Chips Instagram account. He saw this as a way to improve his written communication skills and according to his progress, he had increased page followers by 50 and increased the profile visit by almost a little over one thousand. A quote I should share with you guys is this, “This responsibility isn’t huge but is still incredibly important as it is one of the main means of media- based communication” (Ford, 2018). From this we can extract the fact that communication through media is very important and most of the time media shapes our sense of humor. There is a viral humor shared among this generation known as this digital post called “memes.” This form of media has been popular among a lot of people due to the fact that its short and easy to process the joke because it is provided with a picture or some form of short description for readers to relate to and laugh about. An example of a meme is as followed:

Memes are easy to share and even easier to relate to.

In addition, the author also explained how he implemented a new visual post for the account where his post differed from its predecessor. His post was less complicated and portrayed a more professional ethos for readers to process easily and quickly, just like it would be for memes.
