We’re thrilled to present an exclusive sneak preview from her new book, How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings.

CHAPTER 2: COMMUNICATION

How to Talk Like a Man but Still Be Seen as a Woman

In male-dominated workplaces, women must join The Boys Club. That means acting more like men and less like women.

However, sometimes when women say the exact same thing a man says it’s interpreted in a completely different way. It’s enough to make you want to cry (which as a man means you’re sensitive and as a woman means you’re hysterical).

Here are a few phrases to completely avoid as a woman in the working world.

Conclusion

Some might say that how other people interpret your words is their problem, which is true. But it’s also your problem because getting ahead in your career is all about soft skills. But for women, our soft skills can’t be too soft and we can’t just depend on our hard skills to do the work for us.

So what am I saying here? I have no idea. I’m just talking circles at this point, and that’s okay because I’m doing it in a very, very soothing tone.
