Glower
Mini Me Challenge
I’ve always been told that I glower at the camera. But I suffer from photographic rictus. Point a camera at me and I will stiffen, paste on an awkward fake smile while my body language screams “Get that devilish contraption out of my sight! Now!!!” And here’s proof that I’ve been afflicted from a very young age.
The first one’s me at eight months. On my mother’s side of the family, I was the first child, so was obviously spoilt beyond recognition. My mother has three brothers, so extra fuss! One fine day, one of my uncles decided that he wanted at least one photo of me. This was mid-1985 and home cameras were rare. So, he took me to a photo studio to have my picture taken. According to family history, he spent more than half an hour trying to make me smile, but I refused. So, my photo was taken, glower intact!
This one was taken when I was around seven. I still hated having my photo taken, so the smile is still absent.
At around twelve years of age, I finally managed to smile at the camera. It could be because my mother was taking the picture or because I was standing with my brother…no one knows.
Unfortunately, the photographic rictus has still not left me. With a morbidity rate of about 80%, that’s my main excuse for not updating my profile pic or posting more pictures! And I’m sticking to it!
