We’re excited to say that the Snap Out team is growing! So far this year we’ve brought two new people on board, including Emily, a member of our digital marketing team, and now Amie, a hugely talented User Researcher.

Amie is already playing an important role within Snap Out, bringing her wide range of skills and academic experience into our ongoing projects.

Whilst she is well versed in all things research and learning about people, we thought we would flip the script today and learn more about her! It’s only fair, right?

So, let’s dive in with the questions.

Finish reading this article on our blog.

Firstly, tell us about your studies and career so far before joining the Snap Out team.

I have recently completed my Social Science Ph.D (I graduated in July this year). My doctoral thesis explored the experiences of sitting and self-tracking in patients with chronic lung disease (COPD) and in office workers. This was the hardest, but most interesting and worthwhile four years of my life!

Before my Ph.D, I did a Masters in digital media and society, which sparked my love for all things digital.

Whilst studying I have taken on many job roles, including working for a transport company, with Children in care and university teaching! Working with children in care was the most fulfilling and it was a great opportunity for me to introduce them to research.

Why did you decide to apply for the role of User Researcher at Snap Out?

I love research in general, but more specifically I like learning about people, their attitudes, and behaviour. At the same time I’ve also loved working outside academia in the many job roles I’ve had.

I wanted to combine these together and continue to develop my research experience whilst working in a commercial setting.

What job did you want when you were a child?

I used to tell my parents I wanted to work ‘as a mermaid’. I think as I got older, I realised this wasn’t the path for me (I’m not a strong swimmer).

What’s one quote that you try to take with you throughout your life?

I have one quote which is quite personal “Weedon’s wobble but they don’t fall down”.

Some background to this quote; my surname is Weedon and this quote relates to Weeble- the children’s toy that “wobble but they don’t fall down”. This quote is something my dad always says to me — reminding me to keep going and always pick myself back up after a wobble!

It’s helped me numerous times throughout my life

What’s your favourite thing about Snap Out so far?

The diversity of projects — I love that I get to work on a multitude of different projects as I like to learn new things and like to be constantly challenged.

What’s your go-to snack whilst researching?

When I was younger this was always biscuits (a whole packet of!) but as I got older I’ve realised that my waist can’t take this.

Where do you work from?

I have the luxury of working from home — home being Northampton!

Are you a cat or a dog person?

Definitely a dog person! In fact, I’m a new puppy mummy with a 16 week old Cavalier King Charles — the cheekiest and cutest little puppy — who’s become my best friend already and keeps me company whilst I work from home!

Thanks for allowing us to be nosey, Amie!
