As mentioned in Introducing Twitter Polls, Twitter has lauched a new feature that is likely to bring changes to the interaction between tweeters and followers.

Twitter Polls in a nutshell

  1. Twitter polls are limited to binary answers.
  2. Polls stay active for 24 hours. Tweeters are informed of how many people have voted and how much time is left to vote.
  3. Your vote is not shared publicly. This means that no one else will be able to see which option you voted for.
  4. Once you complete a poll, you can view the results.

So, what’s the deal with Twitter Polls?

There are three things about Twitter Polls that we find particulary interesting. Take them into account when using this new feature.

  1. No brand targeting. No one can see what you voted. This means brands won’t be able to target Twitter users based on their votes in polls.
  2. Retweets and votes. When someone retweets a poll, it’ll then appear in their timeline and be seen by their followers just like any other retweet. People can also vote in polls directly from a retweet.
  3. Pinning polls. If you want to get your poll some extra attention you could pin it to the top of your timeline — this is a great way to get some extra votes in and also display the results of your poll.
  4. Take mobile into account. Polls don’t appear straight in the Twitter timeline on mobile. You need to click on the Tweet to open in up to view and cast your vote. Thus, it is vital that your question attracts your audience’s attention to get them to vote.

Hope this ideas are useful for you! Feel free to comment and/or ask.
