We already told you that Your Business Is Already On Social Media, but what if you want to create a completely new presence?

We’ll walk you through the steps needed to create and claim your Facebook page so that you can start reaping the benefits of social media.

Step 1. Create your own personal Facebook profile

Facebook does not let you create businesses pages without connecting a personal profile as an admin. If you don’t want to create a personal profile, you can’t create a business page.

Step 2. Click the drop down arrow in the top right corner of Facebook

Step 3. Find “Create Page” in the drop down list and click it

Step 4. Choose an appropriate Page Type

Are you creating a clothing brand? Are you in a jazz quartet? Do you own a local ice cream shop? Depending on your vertical you will want to select the page type that is closely aligned with your business.

Step 5. Enter your business information

Depending on which page type you choose in step 4, the input boxes or dropdown menus may be different than the snapshot below. You’ll want to enter in all the information that Facebook asks for. They will use this information to fill in your profile so that users can find you more easily through search.

Step 6. Set profile picture and cover photo

The profile photo is a great spot for your logo. It’s the first thing customers will see in the news feed when your business posts or advertises.

Your cover photo should be more visually appealing than the profile photo. Pictures of your storefront, employees or products are all great options. If you have a marketing team or access to video you can also upload a short video as your cover photo. Just make sure it’s between 30–90 seconds and keeps the customer’s attention.

Step 7. Invite your friends

Once your page is active, one easy way to promote your page is to invite all your current Facebook friends. Most people are eager to support their favorite businesses.

Step 8. Fill in the details

Fill out any additional information on your profile. The page @username is unique to your business and allows people to find you using whatever nickname you choose.

Add a Button allows you to choose a specific call to action you want your customers to take on your page.

When you’re ready, publish your first post! Posts are a key part of your Facebook strategy so make sure your posts are interesting, educational, engaging or entertaining.

That should do it! Now start having genuine conversations with people and create a valuable audience!
