At PlanningWith.Cards we are really excited to be co-hosting DojoLive! with Carlos Ponce and Kimberly Lantis of Nearsoft because we are doing an open interview with David Kadavy. Some of you might know him for publishing a book called Design for Hackers which debuted and was in the top 20 books in Amazon.

I first met David while participating as a speaker in Webprendedor, the beatiful city of Santiago hosted us and we shared stories about the potential of Latin America and then each of us parted to different tech locations, he was at that time spending his time in Chicago and I returned to Barcelona.

But our hunger to be part of the tech scene of Latin America made us return to Colombia and Mexico respectively. So I convinced the team to co-host an interview with David and understand more about product design and productivity in an open interview in DojoLive!

Productivity & Focus.

When you visit David’s Medium blog, you will find many essay’s regarding staying focus and be more productive. You will fin his essay Keep Petty demands from ruining your best Work with some good views and great advice like:

Don’t waste your best energy on petty demands. Keep them at bay until the time is right. — David Kadavy

It is something logical but in the day to day activities of collaboration you get swamped with small requests that are sometimes difficult to say “no”; but in order to stay focus you need to avoid these requests and keep on track.

For petty demands that can wait, have a weekly session. I like Friday afternoons, because I’m creatively tapped out. — David Kadavy.

David also talks about having a dual strategy to boost your output, in which he recommends it for bigger tasks that will require more time and resources to accomplish it. So he recommends starting with short increments and tasks that will get you closer to reaching your goals.

We recommend you look at his essays Build the habit first and Use a Dual strategy to get yourself ready for the challenges.

Hustling is a waste of energy.

I totally agree with David’s take on Hustling, which by now is a common word heard and spoken in different technology circles and in entrepreneurship overall. Which is sometimes used with the word “Growth Hacker”, but we will have another post on it.

When I picture people hustling, I picture them moving in a sloppy or harried manner. I picture energy being wasted — David Kadavy.

One of the most important things about getting things done is focusing, sometimes hustling means doing several things at the same time and being sloppy (been there). Multitasking is something that should be avoided.

Being a risk taker does not mean that you will make “random” and “stupid” bets just for the sake of being busy. As you work to find product/market fit or testing new features you need to have an understanding of the expected outcome.

Just stop proclaiming that we’re hustling, the world would be a much better place. We’d stop living in fantasy versions of ourselves — David Kadavy

So we are really looking forward to talking with David on Wednesday January 25th at 2pm CST in DojoLive! So make sure to follow us on Twitter or checkout the Youtube Channel.

Happy planning!
