A Week in Letters — 2

This week in Soul Magazine writers’ reflect

--

Sketch is by the author

Some meditative prose from our writers this week. The first is from Joanna Rodriguez. ‘The Leaves Break Apart into Tiny Stars’. This writer piles up thoughts one on top of the other. The I of the story moves in and out of scenarios. And this is a meditative time of year. A time to reflect and hope for better things to come. It is in the realising what ails us that we move forward.

In ‘A Winter of Discontent’ which takes its name from a time in history known as ‘The Winter of Discontent’ (the link takes you to Jstor) when pay and conditions for working people was uneven (Does this sound familiar?) the writer Swati De draws on Shakespeare to reflect on many inequalities which still rage even as we attempt to drive them away with our happy thoughts.

Kabiru Onotu chooses to focus on empowerment in ‘Taking a Leap in 2024: Embracing Transformation’, reflecting that we are called to move forward with our lives and find ways to strengthen ourselves and embrace change.

In ‘An Open Letter to My 100th Medium Follower’, Lox Dixon who has a passion for helping others as a volunteer, gives thanks for followers and shares life in New Zealand as well as the journey on Medium so far.

We have now reached 250 followers. Thank you all for following us and reading our stories!
