Preparing to teach our Bloomberg open workshop

Today, we prepared to deliver a pilot session of our Bloomberg open workshop. We went through the online workbook, slides and lesson plan.

“By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

• Understand what Bloomberg is used for
• Retrieve company information using Bloomberg
• Access and find business and company news
• Know how to screen for a list of companies”

We also discussed our Bloomberg online resources which form part of the Specialist Library Support programme, specifically, Getting started searching with Bloomberg. This existing resource covers much of the workshop but is properly designed as an asynchronous learning resource. It does not cover how to screen for a list of companies. We will produce a new resource dedicated to screening over the next few months, as approved by our SLS operational group.

Homework

• Short term: Participate in the Bloomberg pilot workshop, suggest and implement any changes which need to be applied.
• Medium term: Participate in the Bloomberg open workshop programme.
• Long term: Produce a new asynchronous online resource about screening for a list of companies in Bloomberg.
