Top 8 Summary — Stages are random!

Quarterfinals: Merosoku vs Mikata Atsumaran

Both dualies on Merosuoku weren’t using Stealth Jump in favour of Main Power Up. Mentality Shinohara has also been a fan of using Main Power Up, as seen in his previous performance at 10th Tentaclecup.

Interesting that Hiiragi switched to Kensa Sloshing Machine for The Reef. I don’t think Kensa Dualies are a bad choice here, but Fizzy Bombs are pretty strong.

As an additional note, this should be the same Chocopero who currently has 2912 X-Power on Clam Blitz.

Quarterfinals: Revengers vs No Sting Ray

Fii-nyan is still rocking out on the Squeezers. Revengers had a pretty good idea with that Fizzy Bomb + Explosher combo. Despite their team name, No Sting Ray pulls out double Sting Ray on the Port Mack game.

No Sting Ray were likely banking on the painting power of 2x Fizzy Bombs, but their team comp was thwarted by a team that understood how to deal with it.

Quarterfinals: Tomoshipi no Hoshi vs Torpedra Collab

At least Torpedra Collab weren’t lying about their team comp with that name. Tomoshipi no Hoshi were happy that RNGesus pulled through and Port Mack was chosen. They know XERO doesn’t use Sting Ray and it’s unlikely anyone else on that team could.

Missing quarterfinals set is likely:
KasaUdo 〜Roller o Soete〜
Benza: Splat Brella
Mille Crepe: Splatterscope
Ruganess: Splat Roller
Udonman: Kensa Undercover Brella
vs
Kurohige Kaizokudan
Ikura: Dark Tetra Dualies
Irohass: Kensa Splat Dualies
Nicorer: Aerospray MG
World of Youjo: Kensa Sloshing Machine
(Unsure for this team since it’s based on their team picture)

Top 4 Summary — Loser counterpicks!

Semifinals: Merosoku vs Revengers

Fuu can certainly play a variety of backliners. Merosoku figured that The Reef was their strongest map as they didn’t hesitate to pick it. I guess The Reef will always be a good bucket map.

Revengers might have had issues making their Bubble strat work. Hiiragi seemed on point with those Splashdowns.

Semifinals: KasaUdo 〜Roller o Soete〜 vs Tomoshipi no Hoshi

Tomoshipi no Hoshi had a lot of difficulties with this new Brellas + Splat Roller combination. Torpedo is strong.

They counterpicked to Triggerfish since they could swap weapons out, not knowing if KasaUdo would change anything. To everyone’s surprise, Ruganess switched to Splash-o-matic. Pino’s also switched to the Kensa L3 here in the past. Unsure why Tomoshipi no Hoshi went for Piranha Pit. Sting Ray is still a good special there despite the nerfs. Mille Crepe really went off that game and had the highest KA.

Finals: KasaUdo 〜Roller o Soete〜 vs Merosoku

Sturgeon is not one of the strong Brella maps, so RNGesus was on Merosoku’s side. I found KasaUdo countering to Humpback a bit odd. They know Mentality Shinohara only plays buckets, so they must have been very confident in Ruganess. Also note that Fuu sticks with Splatterscope here when they could have played Explosher.

Merosoku instantly picked Reef again. They’ve now won all three of their games there. MakoMart was a very interesting interesting choice considering both teams’ preferred weapons. It’s a good bucket and roller map. Fizzy is strong as well, but Torpedo seemed even stronger.

Merosoku took a very long time to pick a stage. I’m quite surprised that they picked what is considered one of the best Splat Brella maps, even if KasaUdo had a roller instead of their usual Splat/Sorella Brella player. This was a very dominant game for KasaUdo.

Bronze Match: Tomoshipi no Hoshi vs Revengers

I thought Revengers would have issues with their 2x Bubble comp against a Custom Hydra and Dark Tetra, but it wasn’t as dominant as you’d think. That Fizzy Bomb + Explosher combo was still pretty neat even though they lost.

Revengers are really holding onto their Bubble comp idea since they countered to Wahoo World. Etona switched to Custom Dualie Squelchers and Object Shredder to help against that 2x Bubble threat.

Main Weapon Usage

H3D was not that popular for this Top 8. There was another large tournament held at the same time.

Kensa Undercover Brella and Kensa Sloshine Machine were both used a total of 16 times, but Kensa Undercover was seen across more maps.

Both these weapons have been on the rise lately. The main Kensa Undercover user was Udonman, who is interestingly known more for his preference for long range weapons. Hiiragi was the main Kensa Sloshing Machine user. Notable for preferring Tentatek Splattershot over the dualies in general even during Enperry’s peak when he played with Meteor.

Special Weapon Usage

All of those Splashdowns are from Kensa Sloshing Machines, Dark Tetra Dualies, and Splat Rollers.

While Ink Armour was seen in about 50% of comps, you’d see 2x Ink Armour nearly 40% of the time. Tomoshipi no Hoshi and No Sting Ray were the teams that used 2x Ink Armour. Sting Ray appears rather infrequently, especially when compared to Splashdown, but 9/10 of the comps in the Finals had Sting Ray.

Ultra Stamp is still trying its best.

Main Ability Usage

A lot of the Main Power Up comes from Merosoku. Both Melon and Mentality Shinohara would use 2x MPU.

It’s still a hassle for me to try and see beyond main abilities, but I know Bomu on Tentatek Splattershot used some subs of MPU. Ruganess used 2s of MPU on Splat Roller, which is an interesting change since I’ve only seen him use it on Carbons before.

Object Shredder always been popular on chargers and weapons with Bubbles. The amount of Bubble weapons in this Top 8 means we do see OS used more. I just wonder how many players also used OS because of the amount of Ink Armour/Bubble. It’s likely that at least Etona on Custom Dualie Squelchers did in the Bronze Match set.
