WhoNeedsAName started out Season Three by taking the Division 3 title in the second season of the EBTV League. From there, they were able to make several Top 8 finishes at French tournaments.

WNAN is a good example of rookie teams coming out of the French scene. Kyspaz in particular showed good work with the Blaster, allowing them to take their opponents apart. While the team has currently disbanded, a bright future awaits the players as they continue their journey in Splatoon 2.

Saffron Rice started out as a last-minute pickup team and became a sensation thanks to this clip:

Late night musings with Phlox, founder of Splatoon/Smash team Altaira, revealed that he became interested in pushing this as a full team. And although Dia and Kazuki are on loan from their own teams, together as Saffron Rice they have been able to make several appearances through the American weekly events.

Solid Blaster plays from Kazuki and Dia’s pressure with the Splatling made for intense moments in their Genesis 5 run. And one day they look to be more than a hype clip on the internet.

Translucent began their Splatoon career as a pickup, MyPussyTasteLikeCocaCola, who earned respectable finishes in Season 1. However, for Season 2, the team geared up and committed to becoming a full team. From then on, they have made impressive waves in the North American scene.

Like many of the mid-tier American teams, Translucent is still looking for a big breakthrough performance. Compared to when they debuted, the team has been more inactive as of late. A comeback from this strong rookie team is more than welcome in the coming weeks.

Every veteran of Splatoon knows Hanran was a beast. However, they haven’t quite made a splash in the Splatoon 2 scene that was probably expected of them. As of December the team had undergone an extreme period of activity, poking their heads out every now and then at the smaller weekly events. Their future appearances in Splatoon 2 seem very small, but one can hope that Hanran finds a way to return to their former glory.

DetonatioN Gaming made very few appearances in the Season, opting instead to prepare themselves for the 2018 Splatoon Koshien, a large Japanese tournament hosted by Nintendo themselves. DNG qualified through the Online tournament, where they would finish 3rd behind Libalent Calamari and GG BoyZ. During the Finals, they found themselves up against GG BoyZ in the second round.

While all members are veterans of the Splatoon series, they haven’t yet quite made a strong appearance in the sequel. Finding many of their main weapons nerfed in the sequel, the team had a bit of a weapon identity crisis starting out. But with recent buffs to Splatlings and Mirin Cake’s usage of the Splat Brella, they are on the lookout for a stronger Splatoon 2 debut.
