Last time I talked about the uniqueness of healthcare startups and classified them. Today, I wanted to go onto the next startup on the list, from the list including categories ranging from: Healthcare, Agriculture, Biotech, Clean Tech, Food/drinks, Transportation, Productivity, Manufacturing, Financial Tech, Education, Advertising, Security, and Entertainment.

So without further ado, what is the agriculture startup really like?

In agriculture, there are fundamentally 3 problem areas that startups are currently trying to resolve. They are:

1. Crop Production Productivity

2. Crop buying and selling

3. Agriculture space

  1. Crop production productivity refers to using technology to increase the amount of crop output on a given plot of land, or to decrease the amount of wasted resources in developing crops. The job to be done, of course, is to have a more efficient use of given resources to garner the farmers better wages.
  2. Crop buying and selling refers to resolving the inefficiencies that farmers and buyers face when buying and selling crops and storing them.
  3. Agriculture land refers to increase the total area that can be used as farming land/increase the resources that can be used for farming. This is an important issue that will soon become more prominent as the population of earth increases. This is a simple supply and demand side where an increase in the population results in an increase in food consumption. The only way to resolve this issue is to either have more efficient crop production methods or is to create more arable land, whether it be urban or by changing desert lands into fertile soil. Or of course, create a crop that can live in desert lands with minimal water.
