The most popular topics the competing startups are attempting to address with their solutions are artificial intelligence, blockchain, and immersive technologies for newsrooms. Competition was fierce and only 16 are moving on to the battle stage of the competition.

What’s next?

From 1 March onwards, the 16 selected startups will face off in online pitch battles. Every week, video presentations and profiles of two startups working on a similar theme will be posted on our website. A vote split equally between our jury members and the public determines the winner of the battle every week, leading to the 8 finalists. You will be able to vote on the Startups for News website.

Afterwards, the 8 finalists will be invited to the GEN Summit in Lisbon, where they will get to pitch in front of 800 editors-in-chief and media executives. The winning startup for the 2018 edition of Startups for News will be announced on 1 June 2018 at the Startups for News party closing the GEN Summit.

The battles will start soon, so stay tuned!
