Greetings!

Judging by our name, you might conclude that we are opening our doors to first generation students who are eager to share their love for STEM — and you are absolutely correct!

The founder of STEM First! Gen., Monique Faith Boodram, knows that as first generation students, we are bound to uniquely stand out as an inspiration to our families and the rest of the world, thanks to the perseverance and passion we shine with regardless of life’s plot twisters.

However, we go a bit deeper into the rabbit hole; hence, the “STEM” at the beginning of our name.

There are first generation STEM students who take the creativity of science communication to another level. They find ways to incorporate non-science fields, such as the arts and literature, into the science fields and therefore enhance engagement towards STEM education. Outstanding first gen STEM students need a spotlight!

Yet we say that you do not have to be winners of science fairs and entrepreneurs of well-established groups to join our community. STEM First! Gen. is here for the unique narratives from first generation students about STEM & Co. passion discovery and the network of fields that go beyond the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

So let’s join forces and start uplifting our 1st gen science communicators! Here’s the topics we look forward to featuring:

  • How you found your passion for STEM
  • How you bring STEM and non-science fields together (STEM & Co.)
  • Anything #scicomm
  • Bio about how you (and your team if you got one) endeavor in STEM
  • Ideas or proposals about science communication and uplifting STEM students
  • Sci-art!

This is pretty much a brief introductory to this new addition to Medium. To find out more about submitting your articles to STEM First! Gen., read our tutorial articles below! See you soon.
