Promising a new era in high-speed transportation

On Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018 in Hawthorne, California, U.S. Elon Musk gave reporters a sneak peak of a demonstration of a tunnel.

2nd May 2017 I blogged about the launch of Elon Musk’s The Boring Company. This is great news from Elon Musk again. I can’t wait to drive through the tunnel…

Musk said that it had cost about $10 million to build the 1.14-mile demonstration tunnel. Usually a one mile tunnel costs $2 billion.

Main goal of the Loop System is to get rid of heart breaking traffic in major cities across the world and this very fast. This will be reached with going 3-D underground. Traffic infrastructure is currently 2-D only and everybody want’s to join the same roads. The 3-D Loop System will be a scalable 3-D solution which allows to enter as many tunnels as needed from all directions. So every commute will be a high speed 1:1 ride from beginning to end.

Of course boring is very slow and expensive at it’s current state. One mile costs $2bn and even is much slower than a snail. So second goal is to improve speed and reduce costs exponentially with boring technollogy. The company is working on differentiators to current technology like: 3x tunnel machine power, boring and re-enforcement at the same time, automated segment erection and logistics, continuous dirt removal. Even it’s going to sell bricks for $0,10/peace which are made of the dirt. So boring will get much faster — maybe slightly than a snail — and might be financing itself by selling bricks.

Here is the official Boring Company Loop System footage which shows how it is to drive through the tunnel.

This is the video of the launch event on Dec. 18, 2018 — very interesting and inspiring!

And finally this is the news on CNBC by Phil LeBeau:

Great gallery by the Boring company is found here. There is also a footage of the brick machine ;-)
