Meet Our COP28 Delegates & Taiwan base team

Who are we?

Formally established in 2012, Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition (TWYCC) is a group of Taiwanese youths with a passion for environmental conservation and climate change issues.

We are the first youth environmental NGO in Taiwan. Since 2008, we have participated in Conferences of Parties held under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for more than 10 years. Also, we are one of the proactive participants of YOUNGO, the youth constituency within the UN framework.

We believe it is crucial to involve not only public awareness, but also youth empowerment about any kind of climate issues and any decision made in COPs. While taking action locally, we love to share creative ideas with our allies in different countries, making collaborative campaigns either online or physically. Our hope is by doing so, the passion for the environment can spread out, and finally have a positive influence for future generations.

This is the season for 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) — the grand international climate summit!

TWYCC’s International Affairs Team is gearing up to foster collaboration between Taiwanese and global youth climate activists. Preparing for COP28, we’re building international youth networks, tracking climate negotiation progress, and bringing insights back to Taiwan.

The key negotiation themes that TWYCC will focus on at COP28 are the following: Global Stocktake, Loss and Damage, Adaptation, Just Transition Work Programme, and Engaging Stakeholders.

To share our COP28 experiences, the International Affairs Team has divided into a Delegate Team bound for COP28 which will be in Dubai, and a Taiwan-based team raising awareness at home.

He has been passionate about sustainability and finding solutions to climate change since high school. In his day job as a researcher, he tries to find new routes and deeper understanding in the field of photocatalysis to help develop novel materials for the generation of synthetic hydrocarbons with solar energy. But at some point he realized there was a pressing need to diversify beyond academia and was interested in learning with others to see how they approach the climate change problem and to gain new perspectives — fortunately, he found out about TWYCC in late 2021 and was able to join the organization in 2022, and since then he has tried his best to volunteer in a remote setting. This year, he was part of a team in designing and providing a training program to the COP28 delegates. In addition to following the conference remotely this year, he will also be working with the delegation and Taiwan base teams during COP28 to promote climate action to Taiwanese communities.
