This year in 2018, we created a new digital technologies curriculum, with a specific focus on engaging and inspiring Māori teenagers to develop skills and competencies in digital technology. Our aim is to transition all of our students from being only users or consumers of digital technology to also being the creators.

One of the three strands from our Digital Technology Curriculum is Digital Media Creation. One of the assessments from this strand required all of our students to create an original video for TŪ TOA TV that would be published on YouTube.

This learning experience provided the opportunity for students to acquire the digital skills and competencies needed to be able to create their own original digital media content.

(Playlist below Rated PG13: Videos contain teenagers being teenagers.)

TŪ TOA TV Playlist (39 original videos created by our students)

Despite being the biggest consumers of video content, for all of our teenage students, this was the first time they had ever planned, filmed and edited their own original video content. Although their resulting videos are quite raw, in doing so, they have now acquired the creative and technical ability to create videos of their own.

From digital consumers to digital creators.

(A special thanks to Rich Bodo who provided all the technology that made our digital curriculum possible. It really is making a massive impact.)
