Something new

Tapity is in a position to do something completely new after our main product, Hours, was acquired last week.

We know we want to create more products like Hours that we can build into thriving businesses. We also know that we would like to help others build products that we would not be able to build by ourselves.

We have been doing our client work using a traditional agency model over the last five years and have found that the agency model does not let us do our best and most fulfilling work.

So we want to try something completely new with Tapity. It will have elements of an agency, elements of an incubator, but really be a product company at the core. A guiding principle is that whatever process we create should apply to both our internal product ideas and to the product ideas of those we work with. At the end of the day we want to work on and invest in products that we believe in, whether they are initiated by us or by someone else.

I am being vague for a reason. We have lots of ideas but we realize that just as we would never skip spending a good amount of time designing our apps — analyzing the users, the problems, solving for those problems, etc.—we absolutely need to spend time redesigning Tapity itself. We want to create a great experience for us here at Tapity, as well as those we work with, and the best way to do that is by design.

We are spending this entire week going through our design process, and I plan to post our most interesting ideas and findings as we go. We hope that our being open about these ideas will spark discussion in the community that can sharpen our thinking and maybe even inspire others to try creative new models for building successful product companies.

We already have some interesting ideas I want to get feedback on, so stay tuned by clicking the “Follow” link on the top right.

Recommend this article (click the heart) so others can find and join the discussion. Email me if you are interested in working with us or have any private thoughts to share.
