FAQ on Technical Writing

When you have been writing for hours, you need to take a ‘smart’ break to replenish your energy. Fatigue makes you less focused, and the quality of texts you write suffers.

Let me offer you several ways of how you can turn a simple lunch break into a productivity booster!

Workout

Sitting in front of your PC motionless doesn’t do you any good. To take the physical pressure off through exercising often means to brighten up your mood, get endorphins kicking in and re-load your brains so to speak.

You can do a jog, it can be a workout in the local gym or a home workout. There’s no shortage of options. Yoga is something you should definitely try since it trains your body and mind at the same time.

Meditate

Since we mentioned yoga, other mindfulness practices can help your mind calm down and have a good rest. Meditation is something you can do anywhere. It is perfect if you have a quiet place to meditate, but even if it’s not the case for you, some headphones with noise reduction will do the trick — YouTube has plenty of good guided meditations and meditative music to listen too.

After such a session, you will be ready to face the challenges again!

Talk to Friends or Family

A nice chat with someone close to you is a great way of relieving stress and letting go of all work-related worries. Call them on the phone, FaceTime with them, or meet them in a park or a cafe! This is going to re-energize you for sure.

Do Something Creative

Involve the creative part of your brain, while the logical part rests. Art therapy is an awesome way to let your mind get distracted from troubles and enjoy the creative process. Why not turn your lunch break into such a session? A couple of things that are easy to organize anywhere:

  • Coloring books
  • Doodling
  • Sketching
  • Origami
  • Photography (is you can go outside and hit a park, it is perfect)
  • Beadwork
  • Papercutting

The results of your impromptu art session might look great on your work desk and give you something pretty to look at!

Rest Means Rest

I do not recommend doing anything work-related at your lunch break. I’ve read some articles where authors advice going through to-do lists, discussing matters with colleagues — I found this approach does more harm than good, to be honest. Without distracting yourself from work, you won’t feel refreshed.

Enjoy the Outside

Especially on a nice sunny day, I recommend spending your lunch breaks outside. You get to breathe some fresh air and enjoy the sunlight (and, vitamin D!). Grab your lunchbox and headphones, and you are ready to have a nice escape from the routine.

Eat Quality Food

A lunch break is about eating, too. Let’s not forget about that. We are what we eat, after all.

To get focus and productivity boost, try adding the following foods to your ration, they will fill your body with nutrients and make your brain work faster:

  • Avocado
  • Whole grains
  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Salmon
  • Berries
  • Nuts and Seeds
  • Olive oil
  • Ginger

The good thing is — there are various ways to organize a lunch break. This means that you can not only find the things you like but make each day of week different.
