In 2018 Kuo predicted that Apple will launch its first Mac with an ARM processor in the next 18 months. So, hopefully, the Mac will be available in the market in the first half of 2021. This Mac will be different in the sense that an in-house processor will replace the Intel CPU. Over the last couple of years, reports were published regarding the switch of Apple to a custom-designed ARM processor. However, Kuo has gone through this series of new reports and forecasted the concrete timeframe of Mac launch.

Apple ARM

Facts and Findings of the First ARM Mac of Apple:

After the outbreak of coronavirus, Apple was aggressively funding its research, development, and production of 5nm process chips. These chips will be available in the upcoming Mac of Apple. Thus, 5nm chips will be an integral component of iPhones, iPads, and Macs that will be released in 2021. Apple will take the shipment of 5nm process chip shipments in the mid of 2020. Apart from the ARM Mac, iPhone lineup and new mini LED iPad will use these 5nm process chips.

The shift from Intel processors to custom-designed ARM will add more flexibility to Mac hardware updates. Moreover, you will experience fine-tuning hardware and software efficiency on your system. But, developers will need to work ahead to keep MacOS support software in place.

Steve Troughton-Smith, the former developer stated that we will witness the last Worldwide Developers Conference if Kuo’s prediction is correct. Based on this fact, Apple must be looking to roll out a Developer Transition Kit asap. Still, there is no assurance whether Apple will do such a measure or not.

On the Whole

Apple has intended to drop Intel for developing its latest Mac CPU. Along with this, Apple would build it’s desktop and laptops chips as well. It has already started this approach for iPhones and now the remaining devices will be included in it. By undertaking all these activities, Apple is trying to reduce its dependence on third parties.ARM is the foundation of iPhone chips, iPad, and Apple’s custom watch. Apple is focused on staffing its ARM design department in order to solidify its plan. It will thereby develop more and more components in-house.
