PYL Book Club: Jan 2021 Bonus Book: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

I am procrastinating writing my second book and am reading fiction books as research, or so I keep telling myself. Bonus for you in that I am sharing more books this month.

One of this month’s Piloting Your Life (PYL) Book Club bonus choices is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

I quickly read this one too and really need to adjust my reading/sleep schedule.

1. What did you think of the story structure?
2. Were you surprised by anything in the book? More than once?
3. Did you feel conflicted about how you felt about Evelyn at any point in the book? Did the ending help to cement your feelings or leave you just as conflicted?
4. Were you surprised by the love of Evelyn’s life?
5. At any point were you wondering if this was based on a real-life celebrity or a combination of celebrites?
6. Should Evelyn have told Monique the truth earlier on?
7. Evelyn was incredibly strategic with her career including her love life. Was this believable given her background?
8. What did you think of the tension between Evelyn and the life of her life around being a lesbian versus being bisexual?
9. In an interview, the author said she writes women’s fiction. Do you think this book is accessible to both men and women?
10. She also talks about how women read and have read about men. How do we get men to read books about women just as women read about men? Does it matter?
