You changed the game — going down as one of, if not the top producing dog in breed history and blessed our yard our family and 100’s of camps from across the globe. You brought millions of eyes to the breed and inspired several of the top breeders to begin their journey with this incredible breed.
You showed the world that the American Bully breed is gentle, loving and that we can get through anything that life brings — and to do it with a smile. Thank you for the memories, all of the laughs and for helping me through the loss of my brother and for giving me a reason to keep going in early sobriety.
I will do my best to make you proud and continue to build your legacy with the children and grandchildren you blessed us with. We will continue your Legacy and I promise to make you proud 💯

AMERICAN BULLY BREEDING
When it comes to American Bully breeding, there are various methods that breeders employ to produce exceptional offspring. From linebreeding to outcrossing, each breeding method has its own advantages and considerations.
The most successful dog and horse bloodlines have achieved their status through a combination of strategic breeding methods. Linebreeding, outcrossing, inbreeding (when used responsibly), selective breeding, and performance testing are among the preferred methods employed by the top dog & horse bloodlines.
BREEEDING METHODS
Breeding methods have played a crucial role in the success and development of the most famous dog and horse bloodlines. Most renowned bloodlines have achieved their status through careful selection and strategic breeding practices. Each method serves a specific purpose in maintaining and improving the bloodline’s traits and characteristics.
By carefully selecting and pairing individuals based on their genetic background, physical attributes, and performance abilities, breeders can create and perpetuate bloodlines renowned for their excellence and distinction. By selecting closely related individuals with exceptional qualities, breeders increase the likelihood of producing offspring that exhibit the desired traits consistently.
Linebreeding is often favored by famous bloodlines as it helps maintain the integrity and distinctiveness of their lineage. In this article, we’ll explore the most successful breeding methods employed by the top bloodlines and shed light on some of the preferred methods used by the best in the field.
Real life examples can be found by looking at King Koopa, King V or Champion Homicide’s pedigree.
SETTING TRAITS
It’s important to understand that inbreeding and linebreeding are tools used to set traits. But with benefits, there’s also downside to breeding closely related dogs. Inbreeding can be a double edged sword that can cause a lot of issues if done irresponsibly.
These types of breedings should only be carried out by experienced breeders that have a full understanding of the risks involved.
To avoid the COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) from becoming too high, an outcross is recommended immediately following an inbreeding.
BREEDING TYPES
1. LINEBREEDING
One of the most commonly used breeding methods in American Bully breeding is line breeding. Line breeding involves breeding dogs that are closely related, such as siblings or parent-offspring pairs.
Linebreeding is a commonly used method in dog and horse breedings. This method aims to concentrate desirable traits and characteristics within a bloodline.
2. INBREEDING
The word inbreeding carries with it a negative connotation by those unfamiliar with dog breeding, but the best examples of nearly every recognized breed since man domesticated the dog — have been the direct result of careful selection, linebreeding and inbreeding.
Again, inbreeding is done to set traits. But be aware that this doesn’t mean you’re just doubling up on the good, You’re also doubling up on the bad — this includes negative recessive traits and/or genetic disease. Some you may not have known even existed.
3. OUTCROSSING
Outcrossing is defined as the mating of two dogs that are totally unrelated. There are some breeders who would define outcrossing as the breeding of two dogs with no common ancestors in a four generation pedigree.
There are some very good reasons why an experienced breeder would choose to make an outcross. The first is to bring into their line a characteristic that is absent. And, akin to the first reason, to build on a strength and make a good trait — an exceptional one.
The second is to mitigate any faults that are provoked by homozygous recessive genes. And third, outcrossing is absolutely necessary when a breeding program shows a loss of vigor (sometimes referred to as inbreeding depression) as demonstrated by a lack of disease resistance or infertility.
THE RESULTS OF OUTCROSSING
Perhaps more often than not, the puppies of a first-generation outcross of two excellent show dogs display many outstanding traits of their parents. That is why, when a good number of the first-generation puppies from outcross matings are doing so well in the show ring that breeders and others who have noted this, rush to conduct similar breedings.
It is after the first generation of an outcross breeding that a breeder stands to lose everything gained from a successful outcross unless he or she breeds back into his or her established line.
To be successful as a breeder, one must seek to produce puppies which are genetically dominant for all of the qualities required by the breed’s standard. The closer a breeder gets to the ideal, the more uniform in type the puppies and dogs the breeder produces will be.
When a breeder uses more distantly related dogs or dogs with no common ancestors in their breeding program, he or she must expect less uniformity in the offspring.
AMERICAN BULLY STUDS
Deciding on an American Bully Stud should be an exciting, stress free process. The first step in reserving a Stud dog is usually to contact the Stud owner. Quality programs usually require approval of the female before agreeing to the breeding.
The approval process is usually pretty straight forward — send a few photos of the female along with her pedigree to the Stud Owner. If you don’t have an online pedigree set up, send a screenshot of the front and inside of your registration paperwork. Once the female’s approved, Studs can be reserved with a non-refundable a deposit.
Deposits or “lock-ins”reserve the Stud at his current rate. So if the Stud’s fee goes up — you won’t be affected by the price increase because you’re “locked in” at a lower rate. Deposits for quality Studs range typically between $500-$1000.
AMERICAN BULLY STUD SERVICE
Most breeders offer stud service. If you are new to breeding you should definitely take advantage of this. Without using Top Studs from the best bully bloodlines — breeding programs can expect to face a long, uphill battle. Even the best breeders & programs use outside Studs in order to bring in new blood, add genetic diversity and to improve their stock.
ADVANTAGES TO USING A STUD FROM A TOP BREEDING PROGRAM
Many that get started in the dog breeding business decide to purchase studs along with a few top quality foundation females. As we discussed in American Bully Breeding 101, the better way of going about this — is to start out by purchasing female dogs.
Remember that housing, feeding, and taking care of a male puppy is expensive and you’re not always guaranteed to end up with a top stud once they mature. A better way of going about this is to start out by purchasing quality foundation female(s) from a top bloodline.
When your female reaches breeding age — contact a top breeding program for the use their Studs.
DECIDING ON AMERICAN BULLY STUD
PEDIGREE ANALYSIS
Pedigree analysis plays a crucial role in American Bully breeding. It involves studying the ancestry and lineage of a dog to understand its genetic background and potential for passing on desirable traits.
By analyzing pedigrees, breeders can identify dogs with strong genetic contributions and evaluate the likelihood of producing offspring with the desired characteristics. Pedigree analysis is an essential tool for breeders to make informed decisions and plan their breeding programs effectively.
Choosing a Stud is a big decision and one that can set up your kennel for success. Kennels that have been around for a while and have been successful with several quality productions usually linebreed. All of the Stud dogs at Venomline are linebred or inbred, health tested, DNA-Profiled and carry all colors and every tri color variation.

SELECTIVE BREEDING

PERFORMANCE TESTING
Performance testing is an integral part of breeding methods employed by famous bloodlines, particularly in the horse industry. This method involves evaluating the working abilities, athleticism, and temperament.
By assessing their performance in various disciplines, such as racing, jumping, or herding, breeders can identify individuals with exceptional abilities and incorporate them into their breeding programs. Performance testing ensures that the bloodline not only possesses desirable physical traits but also excels in the intended purpose for which it was bred.
BRACKETT’S METHOD
Lloyd Brackett, a renowned figure in the field of dog breeding, had a unique perspective on the topic of inbreeding. While some breeders may view inbreeding as a controversial practice, Brackett believed that when done correctly and with careful consideration, inbreeding could be a valuable tool in improving a dog breed.
Brackett acknowledged that inbreeding, which involves breeding closely related individuals, could intensify the concentration of both desirable and undesirable traits within a bloodline. This concentration can be beneficial for fixing certain traits and producing consistent offspring that exhibit the desired characteristics. PHENOTYPE VS GENOTYPE
