How do I convert PDF to JPG?

Converting PDF files to picture files is a common problem that you may encounter every so often, such as when you need to upload a picture of some document which you have available only in the PDF format, but the web form does not accept it, only image formats such as JPG or PNG. What could you do then?
On Windows, iOS, or Android
Unfortunately, there is no built-in app or functionality on Windows, iOS, or Android that performs the conversion. Users have to rely on third-party applications, services on the web, or other workarounds.
Third-Party Applications
Have a look on Microsoft Store, the App Store, or Google Play for the conversion app of your liking. There are many apps to choose from, of varying prices, quality, and security/privacy risks. We are not in a position to recommend any of them. We advise that you proceed with caution, and choose an app from a trustworthy software provider.
Web Services
There are also so many websites out there that provide the file conversion service, again of varying prices, quality, and security/privacy risks. Proceed with caution, and choose a web service that you feel like you could trust. Adobe, a leading software provider, provides an online tool to convert PDF to JPG, if you do not mind signing up for an Adobe ID account.
Workarounds
The most convenient workaround is opening the PDF file in whichever viewer you have at hand, zoom in or out at an appropriate level, and take a screenshot.
On Windows, the built-in utility program that helps you take a screenshot is called Snipping Tool. You can search for it from the Start Menu.
On iOS, find the screenshot instructions according to your OS version and phone model here.
On Android, try pressing the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time to take a screenshot. If that does not work, refer to your device manual for specific instructions. Android devices of different brands and models have their own method.
On macOS
Every Mac comes with a built-in app called Preview that can open a PDF file and export it to JPG. Chances are it is already a default app for viewing PDF and image files on your computer. To perform the conversion:
- Right-click the PDF file to be converted, and select ‘Open with ▶ Preview’.
- Once you are in the Preview app and viewing the file, select ‘File ▶ Export…’ from the menu.
- In the dialog box that appears, choose ‘JPEG’ for ‘Format’. For ‘Quality’, a level slightly lower than ‘Best’ is advisable, so that the file takes up less space without noticeable compromise on the clarity. For ‘Resolution’, 200 or 300 pixel/inch is suitable for most purposes.
- Change the file name as appropriate, and make sure the file location is where you want, then hit ‘Save’.
