Coming From the Bottom is a Gift

One of the most valuable chips you have in life is your mindset. Starting from the bottom isn’t a deficit, it’s a gift.

There’s no shortage of money on planet Earth, only a shortage of people who think correctly about it. To become a millionaire from scratch, you must end the poverty thinking. I know because I had to. I was raised by a single mother who did everything possible to put three boys through school and make ends meets.

I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I have worked hard my whole life to create wealth and success for myself, my family, and my community. Many Americans live in households that receive food stamps or other means of government assistance. I do not ever blame someone or fault them for being poor. Being born poor was not my fault, nor is it your fault, but living poor WAS my fault and IS yours.

It is a myth and falsehood to think that success just happens or that it just happens to some people. I didn’t grow up in an especially privileged household with any connections to the supposedly “right” people. I don’t have some gene that others are missing, and I definitely haven’t been lucky. I didn’t go to some blue-blood school. I was a complete unknown when I built my first company without a business plan. I had zero know-how or connections. When I started my first business, I had to make it work; there was simply no two ways about it!

The truth is I almost quit after three months — not because of the money but because of the amount of resistance and disappointment I experienced. I had a very specific list of reasons why my company wasn’t going to work. I had compiled it in an attempt to talk myself out of continuing. I was beyond disappointed; I was distraught and all but destroyed. I literally went to a friend and said, “I can’t do this anymore — I’m done.” I made up reason after reason why it wasn’t working out — the clientele didn’t have the money, the economy sucked, the timing was wrong, I was too young, my clients didn’t get it, people didn’t want to change, I sucked, they sucked — and on and on.

I eventually realized — after spending so much time trying to figure out why things weren’t working out — that it was completely possible that I was missing the answer entirely. If this was going to work, it would depend on my ability to increase my efforts — not my excuses.

Since I was given no money to start my companies and was not especially more “gifted” than the next person, 10Xing my efforts was the only way out from the bottom. I went from nothing to accumulating financial, physical, spiritual, and emotional success that is far beyond anything people expected of me.

The 10X Rule is a discipline — not an education, talent, or good fortune. It’s not a gift or trait you receive or inherit; it’s a habit that must be developed. In this way starting from the bottom doesn’t have to be seen as a deficit. Use it as a gift to have an unwavering passion, an undying obsession, and a bonfire-like desire to see through your goals.

The goal doesn’t matter as much as the mindset and actions that are mandatory to accomplish 10X goals. Regardless of where you are at, have a 10X mindset. Find out more about the 10X superlife here.
