From 1978 to 1985 the BBC filmed what at that time was considered to be the complete works of William Shakespeare: 37 plays. I plan to watch all of the plays in chronological order (obviously a speculative endeavour, but I’m following the chronology from the Oxford Shakespeare) and write about my experiences. As an English teacher I have some familiarity with Shakespeare in the classroom and I’m familiar with most of the best-known plays already, but I want to experience the (almost) complete oeuvre. I love the work of Shakespeare but I don’t think it is uniformly great, so I will be critical as well as appreciative.
