Ah, web-wings! You are sorely missed from most modern interpretations of Spidey. Cover art by John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna, and Alejandro Sánchez.

I know what you thought as soon as you saw Spidey on the cover above, Dear Reader: “Didn’t he change this little pub from The Amazing Spider-Man Reviews to The Amazing Comic Book Reviews just recently?” You’re right, of course. That doesn’t mean my undying adoration for the web-slinger just disappeared, though (which is implied in “undying”). Peter Parker remains my favorite character of all time through thick and thin.

Which is why I had to read (and review) Amazing Fantasy #1000.

Released in August of 2022 — exactly 60 years after Spidey’s debut in Amazing Fantasy #15 — this eight-story anthology comic is an unabashed celebration of all things Spider-Man. Marvel pulled together some of the best in the business for the job, from astounding artists like Jim Cheung to wonderful writers like Neil Gaiman to immaculate inkers like Rachel Dodson to consummate colorists like Matthew Wilson to legendary letterers like Todd Klein. It’s a real who’s who of comics.

Every one of the creators on board has either worked on Spidey stories before or is a big Spidey fan, so you can bet your webs Amazing Fantasy #1000 is packed to…
