Many people believe that in order to make good money from blogging, you need to have a large website with hundreds of pages of content.

However, this simply isn't the case.

In fact, you can make a very good income from a simple, 5-page website.

Here's how I do it.

Page #1: Build a Simple Bot (Optional)

The first step is to build a simple but helpful tool.

This could be something like a free calculator or an AI writer. Something that would be useful to your target audience.

But what if you're not an experienced programmer? Can you still create helpful online tools?

Good news: the answer is yes!

You don't need to be a coder to build simple, helpful online tools. In fact, there are many services that allow you to create tools without a single line of code.

You can use a resource like CheatLayer or Riku.ai to create white label automation.

Calconic.com and Involve.me are online calculator builders.

Or, you can hire someone at a very reasonable price from Fiverr to build an online tool for your business (This is my preferred approach).

First, decide what kind of tool you want to create.

Do you want something that will help people track their progress on a goal? Or maybe you want to create a quiz that will help people determine which product is right for them.

Personally, I think a “calculator” is one of the easiest tools to create.

Once you know what kind of tool you want, it's time to find someone who can help you build it.

If you search for "programmer" on Fiverr, you'll find a variety of gig sellers who can help you with your project. Read through the gig descriptions and reviews to find someone who seems like a good fit for your needs.

Once you've found someone, send them a message and explain what you're looking for.

Be sure to include as much detail as possible so they can give you an accurate estimate of the project cost and timeline.

Once the gig seller has all the information they need, they'll start building your tool. And in no time at all, you'll have a helpful new resource that your audience will love.

Here are three great example websites that offer free tools:

Note: This Tool page is optional but highly recommended. Almost every niche could use an online tool of some kind. Think of a common problem your niche faces. Then build a bot to address that problem.

Rank The Tool For Keywords

Once you have your tool built, the next step is to get traffic to it.

There are a few different ways to do this. You can either pay for ads or use SEO to organically rank your tool in the search engines.

Paying for ads will likely be the quickest way to get results, but it will also be the most expensive. If you're on a budget, then using SEO to organically rank your tool is the way to go.

In fact, I highly recommend the organic traffic route for long-term sustainability.

To do this, you'll need to optimize your tool for the keywords for which you want to rank. This includes things like adding keyword-rich titles and descriptions, as well as backlinking to your tool from other websites.

If you don’t know how to do it, outsource to another expert.

Otherwise, you can use tools like RankIQ, Ahrefs, and H-Supertools to help accomplish this part of the process.

Once you've done all of this, it's time to move on to the next page on your site.

Page #2: Write Blog Posts Related to Your Tool

The second page on your simple website is for blog posts.

You’ll want to write blog posts related to your tool. These blog posts should be informative and provide value to your readers.

Focus on low-competition keywords to rank faster and higher on Google.

Your blog posts should also include call-to-actions (CTAs) that encourage users to try out your tool. CTAs could include things like "Click here to try our free AI writer" or "Check out our free calculator."

Not only will these blog posts help promote your tool, but they will also help you rank for additional keywords that you may not have thought of before.

And as an added bonus, they will also help increase the amount of time people spend on your website, which is another important factor in revenue.

You can monetize these blog posts with display ads and affiliate marketing links to maximize your earnings.

Page #3: Write an About Us Page for E.A.T

Your third page on your site will be your About Us page.

This page will:

  • Introduce you as the blog owner, article writer, and tool creator
  • Explain your background and experience with your niche
  • Establish your expertise and authority
  • Build trust with users and Google

E.A.T = Expertise, authority, and trust.

It should include links back to your tool and blog posts. You can also link to your social media accounts and anything published online that shows that you are an expert in your niche.

If you have photos or videos that establish E.A.T., embed them on this page as well.

Not only will this help improve your SEO, but it will also give users another way to find your content and tools.

Here are some good examples of About Us Pages:

Page #4: Pesky Privacy Page

The fourth page on your website should be a privacy policy page.

This is important because it will help build trust with potential customers by showing them that you're committed to protecting their personal information.

My best suggestion here is to template your privacy page by looking at a big, authoritative site in your niche (or any niche really).

Here is a good example of a privacy page.

Here are a few simple privacy page examples for comparison:

You can also use a free privacy policy page generator (like this one from privacypolicies.com).

A privacy page is one of the necessary pages you need for Google to trust your site.

Page #5: Money-Machine Page

The final page on your website should be an affiliate disclaimer page.

Aka, your money machine page.

This is important if you plan on promoting affiliate products on your website. By including this page, you're letting potential customers know that you may receive commissions for any products they purchase through your links.

While this may be a boring page to write, you only create it once and then you’re done.

In fact, that’s true of 4 out of 5 of the pages on your simple website.

Here is an example affiliate page.

Other (Separate) Pages You Might Want on Your Site

In case you want (or need) other pages on your site, you might consider adding these pages:

  • Contact Us Page
  • Static Home Page
  • Legal Disclaimer

To condense your website, you could add your legal and affiliate disclaimer to the same Disclaimers page. You could also add your contact information to the About Us page.

Finally, your tool or blog post page could serve as your Homepage.

How You Make $5,000 Per Month from a Simple 5-Page Website

In case it wasn’t clear before, let me be direct.

You can make $5k (or more) per month by building a simple website around a free (or freemium) online tool.

Once you build your tool, you add display ads (images and video) to your tool page.

You make money by driving organic or paid traffic to your tool.

As the traffic uses your tool, they see your ads, which makes you money. If certain features of your tool are only available for a one-time payment or monthly subscription, then you can make money that way, too.

Your blog posts can also be monetized with display ads and affiliate links.

As far as numbers go, you can write 100 blog posts or 1,000. If I were you, I’d shoot for 1,000.

Here is a 5-minute video that goes through my complete process of building a 5k a month blog:

YouTube video by Writing Secrets

Here are the major takeaways from this article (with a few extra tips):

  • You will probably create all 5 pages at around the same time: Tool, Blog, About Us, Privacy, Affiliate.
  • Once you set up your simple website, all you really need to do is make sure your tool is running smoothly, write/update content, and optimize your blog posts for advertising and affiliate revenue.
  • For display ads, I like to start with Google Adsense, move to Ezoic, and then upgrade to Mediavine and/or AdThrive as I grow monthly pageviews on my websites.
  • It would cost a couple of thousand dollars upfront and an ongoing cost of a few hundred dollars, but you could outsource the entire site.

Final Thoughts

The two most important factors that determine how much money you will probably make are the tool you create and the keywords you use to write your blog posts.

Patience is required. It will probably take up to 1 or 2 years to see peak results.

While it can happen faster, thinking long-term is safer for your sanity.
