Lost in the Sharing Economy
The “sharing” economy — powered by Airbnb, HomeAway, Lyft, Uber, and many others — enables consumers to rent homes, cars and entire experiences with just a few clicks. We personally value and use these services.
But somewhere on the path to making money in a rent-anything economy,
we lost sight of the opportunities afforded by existing, trusted relationships.
We lost sight of the difference between renting and truly hosting — giving the gift of a home-away-from-home without expecting anything in return.
We lost track of what it means to sincerely say “thank you” as a guest — through notes, hugs and gifts, instead of cash tips and 5-star rating systems.
At BedKin, we are working to recover what has been lost.
Building A Better Way
Our mission — to strengthen real-world relationships — inspires a product focused on giving to friends, instead of just enabling cold transactions.
The Visits tab is the center of both hosting friends at your home, and requesting to stay at your friend’s homes. Every visit is a chat — we enable you to discuss a visit prior to confirming dates. The Homes tab shows all your homes, both the ones you lease or own, and the homes that are in your network after friends have shared with you. The You tab holds all your personal information, including a full Guest List of everyone you’ve offered your home to.
