Your performances are fooling no one

We see you.

Let me translate and add the operative word — we see THROUGH you. All the apologies, all the pandering, all the statements, NASCAR, we see you, Record Labels, we see you, Anna Wintour, we see you, Ben & Jerry’s — you get a pass, but all you other folk, damnit — we see you.

Thing about it is, there’s been no last straw. Watching you all stumble over each other for the best apology is disgusting and we don’t need it. It’s all symbollic. You tearing down statues, banning flags, symbollic. And you’re fooling no one.

Take NASCAR. What, you think we forgot that Brian France, NASCAR CEO, endorsed Trump? You think we forgot that his grandfather did the same for George Wallace? You think we forgot how NASCAR thought Black drivers were bad for business? Banning a flag? Come on, ya’ll. Record Labels? I think we covered that enough. And as far as Ms. Wintour, André Leon Talley took care of that when he said, “she’s part of an environment of colonialism. She is entitled and I do not think she will ever let anything get in the way of her white privilege.” Make no mistakes about it, we know the Democratic party ain’t shit (Read this book on the Clinton’s for a little wake eye).

And here’s the thing — we don’t need to see any of this.

You’re not doing us any favors and the thing that Black people want, what we want more than your words are Actionable Programs. The uprisings of the late 60s forced the government’s hand which resulted in the Kerner Commission, an examination of the conditions that produced the so-called riots. One of the things that the Commission recognized was a part of the problem was poor media representation.

As we talked about here, one of the things that came out of that was 50+ television programs across the nation that were Black-centered, written, produced, and directed by Black people — training young talent and providing positive images for a generation of children that had never been witnessed before. Even Xerox sponsored a weekly, seven program, CBS News series titled Of Black America that ran from July to September of 1968 that dealt with everything from Black History to the relationship between Black Americans and the diaspora.

Some of these programs lasted until the 80s. Then, slowly, surely we watched as those programs were defunded and Corporations bought out all independent outlets imaginable. Now these same Corporations are turning around after laying off Black employee after Black employee, maintaining false diversity, all the while saying you’re here for us?

It’s quite clear that your profits are important to you. That’s why you’re doing these PR stunts. But we don’t need this. We don’t need your voices or apologies. You ain’t got shit to say. We need change. And we see you. So…please don’t give us any more of this:

(and shame on you NAACP)

Although the article is short, the hyperlinks are plentiful. Don’t feel pressured to read them all as what is going on is overwhelming enough.
