The Christ Church Heritage A to Z
Celebrating 30 years of the Canterbury UNESCO World Heritage Site
Note from the editor

Canterbury Christ Church University is organising a series of events to celebrate the city’s 30 year-milestone of World Heritage status.  This year marks 30 years since three buildings in Canterbury were inscribed onto the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Canterbury Cathedral, the Church of St Martin, which is the oldest church in England, and the ruins of the Abbey of St Augustine.   Christ Church is exceptionally proud of its unique connection with the World Heritage Site, as the North Holmes Campus occupies part of St Augustine’s Abbey site dating back some 1,400 years, providing a remarkable link between the University and Canterbury’s ancient past.   Our Heritage A to Z calendar is an integral part of our University celebrations and from Tuesday 30 April, we will be revealing one letter each day to represent an aspect of our heritage associated with our World Heritage status, or the wider city and its landscape. Entries have been written by academics, students and alumni, alongside representatives from the King’s School, staff of the cathedral and St Martin’s Church.
