Christmas 2022 — taken at the United Wards Club Christmas Carol Service

My first visit to this wonderful church was on Tuesday 13 December the United Wards Club held their annual Christmas Carol service. This year joined by members of the Aldgate Ward Club so I got invites from two directions and felt I couldn’t turn it down. I was pleased I went. St Margaret’s on Lothbury is directly opposite the back entrance to the Bank of England and a few hundred yards from the Guildhall.

St Margaret’s is one of the many churches in the City that people walk by every day and hardly notice. The door is only modest and the surrounding buildings mean there is little opportunity to see the spire sitting atop a Christopher Wren tower unless you purposefully stop and look up.

The church has a wonderful history and has rectors names dating back centuries

On the Livery front the it is the church of five companies — the Armourers and Brasiers, the Glovers of London, the Tylers and Bricklayers, the Tin Plate Workers alias Wire Workers and the Scientific Instrument Makers.

It is also the Church of two Ward Cubs: Broad Street and Coleman Street.
