The knob was turned once more.
The volunteer waited for something to happen, but nothing did.
There was a slight pause as people read information on screens and other devices.
The man opened his eyes.
Everything around him was odd, but nonetheless familiar.
- Hello.
- Hi…
- We’ve taken your conscience into a new body.
Everything around was white. No other colors anywhere.
There were two chairs, and then someone showed up and said:
- Take a seat.
They both sat down.
The door closed behind them. They were finally safe.
Even the sound from outside was muffled.
Whatever cops, drones, and whatnot that was chasing them was either trying to crack open an impenetrable door or had given up the chase.
There was nothing left.
No animals, no people, no hope.
No more art, no further entertainment, nothing new around the corner, nothing left to live for.
Alone, the last person alive, as a last resort, plugged the cables into the body…
