It struck me today
I have written
I tried to determine
Who I really was
When no one
Everything dies
A well-known fact
Who’s to say
What might come back?
I broke upon the surface
From deep inside the ground
Archaeology is embedded
In every estate sale
Mother always said
If it’s not one thing
Is our passion
Strong enough to keep
I lit a candle
To watch the flame flicker
Life can be a carnival
That dizzies us
On my best days
Of writing
