Cryptonomic is delighted to team up with Smart Chain Arena (the team behind SmartPy) to deliver Chainlink integration for the Tezos blockchain. As part of our commitment to broadening adoption of Tezos along with making its ecosystem accessible and even more useful, we look forward to bringing Chainlink’s network of secure and trusted oracles to dApp developers and enterprise builders looking to bring off-chain data to smart contracts in a blockchain-native manner.

The Tezos ecosystem has come a long way since its inception in 2018, with multiple on-chain governance successes over the past two years. In recent months, developer tooling has also become mature and ready. However, the lack of reliable market data and external data of multiple kinds has been a blocker for some builders. Meanwhile, Chainlink has become a pervasive provider of data across multiple projects and platforms. It is therefore no surprise that we have been asked by several Tezos users about when Chainlink integration is coming to Tezos.

Anyone who has read our development tutorials for Tezos will know we are massive fans of the SmartPy contract development platform. We have gotten to know the team at Smart Chain Arena through our collaborations and our own continued use of SmartPy for Tezos smart contract development. We see SmartPy as a secure and intuitive platform for developing robust Tezos smart contracts and are looking forward to working together on this exciting project.

We must thank the Tezos Foundation for making this collaborative opportunity possible. The entire project will be funded with a Tezos grant and allow us to benefit the entire ecosystem. Readers familiar with our company will know the suite of tools at our disposal for this project was also made possible due to generous 2018 grants from the Foundation. We encourage others with capabilities and constructive ideas for the Tezos ecosystem to look at the grants process as well.

The integration smart contracts will be written in SmartPy by Smart Chain Arena and the Cryptonomic stack will support deployment, indexing and querying. ConseilJS will be used for contract deployment and invocation while Conseil will index Oracle data and make it available for querying through an API. As usual, Nautilus Cloud will be available to anyone who needs access to blockchain and indexer nodes. An important part of our remit is to support other developers as they use this integration so we will be continually available for the next year through our usual channels to help other toolmakers, dApp developers, token creators and enterprise players.

In the coming months, we’ll be posting multiple updates through our social media channels, posting both project updates for our broader audience and technical details for Tezos builders. We are excited to share details of this project all the way through completion and then as oracles unlock new powerful and functional Tezos applications. Watch this space!
