Look what our kid captured!

It’s a monarch caterpillar in the middle of making a chrysalis!

Do you recall when I told you about our caterpillars?

Remember how I told you that after planting butterfly weeds, we were inundated with tiny larvae that we watched grow and grow? But then we were distraught because they seemed to want to leave and “escape?”

Our youngest has been diligently searching the yard for the “escapees” but hasn’t found any.

And then, yesterday, he spotted a fat caterpillar that had crawled across the yard and up a weed.

He was convinced it was making a “J” formation, in the pre-chrysalis phase.

I was skeptical.

With the faith of a seven-year-old, he checked on it every few hours…

And then jubilant cries from the yard,

“Everybody, c’mon! It’s happening! C’mon!”

Oh me of little faith.
