DID THE ANGELS AROUND THE THRONE SING LOVE, LOVE, LOVE?

No. That was the Beatles in 1967

For the record, the seraphim cried to one another and said:

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
Isaiah 6:1–3

But God is Love

True, as is written in 1 John 4:8 || He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

There is absolutely no doubt that God loves His Creation but God’s Love has saved no one. It is the Blood of Jesus that saves. Forgiveness costs.

However, the meaning of love is not crisp in English

Ravi Zacharias (can I say his name, yet?) succinctly defined ‘love’ as, “The quality relationship between two personal beings.” This can be negative as well as positive; the two antonyms being “fear” and “indifference”.

Most people are indifferent until they become aware of their mortality — fear then takes over.

And the use of the word has become very sloppy.

• I love my dog.
• I love ice cream.
• I love my children.
• I love God.
• I love killing the Bad Guys.
• If having sex is making love, and God is Love, what difference does it make if we are married to other people.

Obviously, a rigorous study of ‘love’ in the Bible is necessary.

NOTE: The next few post are significantly influenced by Nancy Missler’s book “The Way of Agapē”, The King’s High Way Ministries, Inc, © 1994. For what it’s worth coming from me, this is the seminal work on Agapē.

WE HAVE BEEN INVITED TO JOIN A CHASTE, PURE, ETERNAL LOVE AFFAIR

The foundation of this whole exercise is the absolute certainty that HaShem has gone out of His way to open the way for us to partake of His Love. Knowing this before the start gives the correct World View that influences the conclusions.

John 15:9As the Father loved (agapaō) Me, I also have loved (agapaō) you; abide in My love (agapē).

John 16:27 for the Father Himself loves (phileō) you, because you have loved (phileō) Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.

John 17:23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved (agapaō) them as You have loved (agapaō) Me.

John 17:24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved (agapaō) Me before the foundation of the world.

John 17:26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love (agapē) with which You loved (agapaō) Me may be in them, and I in them.”

You’ve noticed that there are several Greek words here translated as, “love”, in English.

It is in the DNA of every Western World Christian that there are four Greek words in the Bible that mean “love.”

eros love (physical), stourge love (parent-child), phileō love (friendship), agape love (divine).

We all know this. Why are you wasting my time?

Well, it was shown in “WHAT IS TRUTH ABOUT WHAT IS LOVE IN THE BIBLE?” that the word eros is not in the NT or the OT (LXX) — check it out. You will find out a lot about God’s view of sex in that post.

eros is actually pagan love named after a Greek Pagan god. Oops!

So it’s worth looking at the other words.

Storgē Love

Storgē is the Greek word for our natural, emotional, “feeling love.” It’s simply our “affection love” for one another. It’s an instinctive love like the love of a parent for a child, or of a husband for his family. Storgē actually means “to cover over” or “to protect.”

It is not directly used in the Bible, but only as part of a constructed word.

G794 — astorgos; without natural affection (2x i.e used twice in the Bible).

Romans 1:31: Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection (G794 — astorgos), implacable, unmerciful:

2Ti 3:3: Without natural affection (G794 — astorgos), truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

G5387 — philostorgos; kindly affectioned (1x)

The mutual love of parents and children and wives and husbands, loving affection, prone to love, loving tenderly, chiefly of the reciprocal tenderness of parents and children.

Romans 12:10 || Be kindly affectioned (G5387 — philostorgos) one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Storgē Love is a minor player.

Phileō Love

Phileō love (G5368 — phileō) is the Greek word for anything that we are strongly attached to. Such love is based on a similarity of outlook and interest. It’s a mutual attraction love, a friendship love, a companionship love, or a sharing of common interests. We phileō someone because we’re bound together doing the same thing. Phileō love is having something in common, being compatible, being able to think alike, seeing eye to eye. Sporting teams, military units, construction crews, more that one person having the same goal.

David and Jonathan are good examples of phileō love. The rainbow warriors claim that this was a homosexual relationship. And David was a man after God’s own heart, so same-sex sex must be OK — right?

This claim is so outrageous it is worthy of closer examination.

It is written in 1Samuel 18:1 || And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved (H157 — ‘āhaḇ) him as his own soul.

H157 — ‘āhaḇ, a participle = G25 — agapaō (LXX) = being devoted to. It must be admitted that this is not crisp and there could be sexual connotations at a stretch. Where else is the word used in an unambiguous manner?

It is written Deuteronomy 6:4–5 || “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love ( H157 — ‘āhaḇ) the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

I’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE NEAR THAT!!!!

Also, there is much coming from somewhere over the rainbow about David and Jonathan kissing each other as an affirmation of same-sex practices.

It is written in 1 Samuel 20:41 || And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed (H5401 — nāšaq) one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

Cross-checking with the Septuagint (LXX) H5401 — nāšaq → G5370 — philēma.

It is written in Luke 7:45 || [Jesus speaking] You gave Me no kiss (G5370 — philēma), but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in.

Would I be wrong in deducing that men kissing a greeting was a common Hebrew practice? Is every kiss a passionate embrace? (Not after the honeymoon period.)

Also, it is written in 1 Samuel 10:1 || Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed (H5401 — nāšaq) him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance? The same argument applies.

As well as, Psalm 2:10–12 || Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss (H5401 — nāšaq) the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

The first law of holes is, stop digging. This claim is a Pandora’s Box for the rainbow warrior’s well researched articles. The words unspoken here have implications for Messiah’s sex life. At least it proves Dan Brown got it wrong.

PLEASE STOP THIS TEACHING, RAINBOW PEOPLE!!! YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR DEPTH!!!

But there is even more

It is written in 2Chronocles 17:17 || And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men (H5401 — nāšaq) with bow and shield two hundred thousand.

The mind boggles if the Rainbow Doctrine is valid. But you decide. I have no theological qualifications.

The current state of play

Unless humongous errors have been made (I have a good recipe for Humble Pie, just in case) it has been established:-

1. eros love (physical) doesn’t appear in the Bible. It is Pagan sex. But there is God sanctioned sex.

2. stourge love (parent-child), is a minor player, it almost doesn’t exist.

3. philia love (friendship), is platonic. There is no hint of any nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more.

4. agape love (divine) has yet to be addressed.

Do I expect to convince and convert anyone.

I sincerely hope so but that is actually not my job. It is my job to present the evidence.

The English philosopher, William Blake,[1] said,

When I tell any truth it is not for the sake of convincing those who don’t know it, but for the sake of defending those who do. Bible believing Christians are being subjected to more and more sophist pseudo intellectual factoids claiming that the Christian Church has been getting it wrong for two millennia and God is fine about same-sex sex. This post is evidence to show that the Rainbow Doctrine is based on jiggery pokery being applied to the evidence available. I’d rather be doing more interesting things but it is what it is.

One of the Principles of Evidence is, “Evidence is not proof.” The Justice System in Australia is adversarial. The same evidence is used by both sides to argue their case. It is based on Proverbs 18:17 || In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines. And, so far, I have only seen huffing and puffing and striking a pose.

It is one thing to deal with same sex attraction in a sincere fashion but the incident with king Hezekiah and Sennacherib, when Sennacherib mocked Yehovah, it got up God’s nose and up God’s nose is a dangerous place to be. He will not be mocked.

For instance, I (a Saint) look out the window and see the evidence of exquisite design pointing, undeniably, to a Creator. The Atheist next to me sees an accident. The Apatheist standing on the other side of me doesn’t care. It depends whether the situation is illuminated by the light or the LIGHT.

That’s enough for now. The big one, agapē love, is next cab off the rank. Perhaps there are a few more surprises.

The forgoing evidence has not been presented to convince any reader but to allow a personal decision to be made. There is much more to know about this subject. Perhaps you’ll pay another visit, sometime. If you have seen something you like, I encourage plagiarism. So, always check everything I say first, then please re-cycle, re-brand, re-structure, re-issue, re-label, or re-gurgitate in any manner you please. No need to acknowledge me because the Holy Spirit Who holds the Intellectual Rights.

All Glory to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

(We all have a plank in our eye. It’s bigger than we think.)
