BoF for Solr users

Facilitators and participants will share experiences and insights in the process of Solr usage (and non-usage), advantages and drawbacks of Solr, alternatives to Solr, and how Solr has been thought of and used given the problems that users and potential adopters want to solve + given the specificity of domains (which aggravates the pros and cons of Solr usage).

On DataOps

This session intended for small and mid sized organisations will address various practical, day to day concerns on Data Operations, choice of platforms, cloud providers and tools, and the trade-offs which you will have to make in the process. The session will also discuss on team organisation and workflows, the various challenges and bottle necks and finally, the success stories from the field.

Math of data science

Getting started with data science is a challenging problem in itself. Where does one start — is it math, or is it the problem you’re trying to solve? The facilitators will share their personal journeys and explain how someone with or without specialised training can start their journey with data science. The focus of this session will be the math required to get started with data science.

Facilitators and participants will talk about how they stumbled on to Airflow and share their key learnings. Further, the advantages and disadvantages of Airflow will be discussed along with use-cases.

Spark has been popular for the last few years and this discussion will cover the the key learnings, adoption journeys, advantages and drawbacks, and the right scenarios to use Spark.

This discussion will see some specific issues discussed in organising and managing large data projects. Some of the key issues such as goal identification, stakeholder management, staffing, risk management and technology capabilities will be discussed.

BoF on data privacy

Do data protection laws need to go beyond privacy? While the world is moving towards ensuring the availability of open data, the concerns over privacy are still valid. This BoF will see discussion on principles which could help resolve such conflicts, and also see questions raised around the issues of informational privacy, building trust between consumers and businesses.

Data science for AdTech

The world of advertising is also leveraging data. This session will see discussions on the typical and atypical problems to solve in ad-tech, data quality and collection issues, and operational constraints in day-to-day usage.

The Data Engineering BoF will cover topics such as systems at scale and people at scale challenges. Issues around democratising the data, easing data access, scaling data infrastructure, ethical data usage and more will be discussed in this sessions.
