Kids can study online, are taught by robots or become teachers themselves; will teachers become obsolete in the coming decades? Education of all kinds of levels is going digital and global. The Internet is key: from teaching each other how to successfully complete a game by means of a walk-through video, to Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) which allow you to enroll in a Cambridge course from your living room. What’s happening in the field of education & innovation? Let’s look at a selection of 5 great education videos.

1. Digital Aristotle

Famous podcaster CGP Grey shares his thoughts on the future of education, which according to him can only benefit from the Internet. He says that it would be great if every student had access to a teacher like Aristotle, but that such personalized and expert tuition is not possible according to three seasons: there’s not enough humans, it’s horribly expensive and not everyone is as good as Aristotle. However, the (close to) omnipotent Internet might offer a solution…

2. Disrupting African education

Al Jazeerah’s Innovate Africa highlights three different innovations in this clip: solar-powered pop-up classrooms in South-Africa, low-cost tablets bring local content to primary schools in Kenya and a Ghanaian entrepreneur getting kids into coding by building robots from scrap.

3. The biggest online university called Coursera

Coursera is the world’s largest (in term of users) Massive Online Open Course which let’s people from all over the world enroll in free online courses from top universities. In this talk by Coursera’s co-founder Daphne Koller, they idea behind the MOOC is discussed, as well as its very first successes and hurdles.

4. Robots being taught how to write

This CoWriter Project from the Computer-Human Interaction Lab for Learning & Instruction (CHILI) looks into the acquisition of handwriting skills among young children. In learning by teaching, the child builds self-esteem and makes itself reflect on its own errors when writing.

5. Adding 3D, AR and VR to education

Using 3D, augmented reality and virtual reality in education, makes many classes and subjects more immersive and realistic. There are several companies experimenting with these news kinds of technologies for education purposes, but one of the coolest in our opinion is 3D4Medical which develops apps for the study of anatomy.
