Last week I showed you the very basics of Blockchain. Hope it made the concept a little more comprehensible? Now, let me share some talks about the difference between Blockchain and Bitcoin and on the origin and inner workings of Blockchain. On a side-note, we’ve added some 100 videos this week. You might want to check this one on Sports and don’t forget about this one on Energy.

Quick recap

Here’s a great animation by Westpac (Australian bank) explaining the distributed ledger mechanism that is central to Blockchain technology. A network without a central server where data can be verified by other users prevents hacking and fraud. It introduces greater transparency to transactions and increases privacy protection.

Aha-Erlebnis

Matt Lucas is part of the IBM’s global Blockchain engagement team. In this talk he explains the concept by breaking down its core elements: (1) shared / replicated ledger, (2) smart contract, (3) privacy and (4) consensus. We suggest you to watch this, especially if you have trouble with the concept. Might not be an exact eureka moment, but could be pretty close ;).

OK. But HOW does it work?

Here’s a more technical approach to understanding Blockchain. What does it actually do behind the scenes? The video is made by CuriousInventor, a YouTube channel that provides ‘simple’ explanations to many technical topics.

Bitcoin vs. Blockchain

Blockchain legend Andreas Antonopoulos is the author of Mastering Bitcoin and Internet of Money. In his talk at the 2016 Deloitte FinTech Conference Antonopoulos explores in detail the differences between Bitcoin and Blockchain and shreds several statements / urban legends on both.
