Garbage Cans Must Have Really Low Self-Esteem

We keep them outside,
And routinely dump our filth into their mouths.

All the wet diapers,
Old toe nail clippings,
Empty candy wrappers with all the chocolate licked off.

And every few days,
We park them on the curb,
Leaving them out all night on street,
In the cold,
At the mercy of stray cats,
And bored teenagers.

Then the garbage man,
Flips them upside down,
And they puke out their waste into the dump trucks.

They go back to their dark corners,
By the side door,
With the dog shit,
And the dead cockroaches,
And the fallen leaves,
Just sitting their patiently,
Waiting to do it all over again.

They never complain,
Or ask for a break,
Or for you to PLEASE STOP.

They plod along,
Help us to live clean,
Healthy lives,
Never asking for a reward.
