You can import your blog article to Medium. You can even import your whole blog to Medium publication from WordPress. But what if you want to import your whole blog which is not hosted by WordPress? This was my case.

I wanted to transfer my old Blogger articles to Medium, but I didn’t want to do it article by article. The official announcement said we just had to wait for Medium to implement such feature. But there’s a way we can do it today.

Fortunately Blogger can export whole blog articles in XML format by going Setting > Other and clicking Buck up Content button, so now you have a Blogger version of XML archive. The file will be named as blog-MM-DD-YYYY.xml.

Go to Setting > Other and click “Back up Content” to download XML archive

Then you have to find a free WordPress hosting service. I personally used sourceforge.jp but any service should work. Create a new blog and go to the Dashboard, then import (upload) the Blogger version of XML archive by clicking Tools > Import menu.

Import Blogger version of XML archive to your temporary WordPress blog

Then you need to export whole your story form WordPress by clicking Tools > Export menu. This makes a WordPress version of XML archive, which Medium can recognize. The filename should look like NAME-OF-YOUR-BLOG.wordpress.YYYY-MM-DD.xml.

Now go to the Publication page of Medium and follow these instructions.

Enjoy.
