We Need to Scrap ‘Liberal’ and ‘Conservative’ Labels to Save The Future

How about we categorize people based on whether they’re Loving or Cruel instead?

It seems these days everyone is automatically put in one of two categories: left or right.

But at the same time, these categories have both lost a lot of their meaning. Apparently, a “liberal lefty” is someone who’s often defined as soft and squishy, a simp, and just wants everyone to hug it out.

“Conservative right-wingers” are those who like rodeos and revving their pickup trucks (according to some). In some cases, these definitions can be more accurate than not.

However, we are not one set of ideals that fall squarely into the “liberal” and “conservative” camps. Too often we dismiss people using these labels — especially online — and plug our ears into their thoughts.

We talk about working together as one to save the world, but in practice, we loathe people who we see as opposites politically.

Most people aren’t simply liberal or conservative. But the vast majority of us embody values from both sides of the fence, whether we realize it or not. This is actually a hopeful thing for humanity, as it shows some common ground.
