What is a Box Ticker?

They come in all shapes and sizes.

The worst kind are those who think they know best and have acted for the greater good of man (and women) kind.

The reason box tickers ban things is because they can.

A local council once banned a fun race that would involve people running between pubs, having a drink (beer) and running to the next hostelry.

Those who think they know best declared that such a race would encourage binge drinking.

Now I have no experience of what is now called binge drinking, but I have partaken in a fun race between pubs.

I can assure the self-important box tickers that whatever running between licensed premises does encourage, it isn’t binge drinking.

The whole concept of a “race” is not to linger too long at the drink stops but run as fast as you can to the next drink stop.

In the beginning, you may consume most of the half pint allowed, but as the race progresses, the large majority of people just go through the motions of drinking.

Most of the beer is discarded after one mouthful. Some of it thrown on the road, most of it over the other competitors, and some over the spectators (well, that’s what happened in our races).

By the time the race is over, you are too creamed to think about binge drinking, although a few draughts are required to restore you back to being a human as quickly as possible.

To be involved in binge drinking, you would not race between pubs and drink a mouthful of alcohol.

You would take part in what is known as a pub crawl. That means moving very slowly between stops. Drinking a reasonable amount of refreshment and then you move on and drink some more.

This can continue for several hours.

I myself prefer the pub static. This entails going to a pub you like and staying there.

Why waste drinking time with walking, but horses for courses?
