I am excited to share that I will be joining the second annual Medium Day Writers Conference at Medium as a speaker on August 17, 2024. I feel thankful and honored to be selected out of 650 applications. The session is further supported by The Quantastic Journal—a critical science and tech journal on Medium that you can follow here.

The free event is a great chance for the Medium community to come together to inspire and support each other. The conference is all happening online from August 17, 2024 3:00 PM to August 18, 2024 12:00 AM CEST, so anyone can join in from anywhere by registering here: Medium Day 2024 (zoom.us)

I am eagerly anticipating my upcoming session titled “The Planet’s Balancing Act—Is Technological Innovation a Solution to Climate Change or Part of the Problem?” where we want to focus on the debates surrounding climate change in an innovation environment. Scheduled:

Saturday, August 17, 2024
10:30–11:00 AM ET (New York)
4:30–5:00 PM CEST (Stockholm)

we will dive into different perspectives on whether technological innovations are a solution to climate change or actually part of the issue.

Climate risks are threatening the future of our planet. We find that technological innovations like climate engineering and artificial intelligence might be able to help solve several problems of climate change. However, these advancements also introduce unexpected challenges and new risks. For instance, the rise of AI poses governance risks, while climate engineering could disrupt our planet’s ecosystem by focusing too narrowly on localized solutions. During our session, “The Planet’s Balancing Act,” I will briefly outline the concept of dilemmas and give a few specific examples. But at the core and heart of the session, we aim to engage participants in a discussion about the various aspects and controversies of these kinds of technological interventions. The goal is to develop a critical understanding of the planetary interconnectedness when confronting new climate solutions and innovations offered by public and private innovators and their media outreach.

Similar to our session, every session at Medium Day begins with a brief talk by an expert and ends with a lively discussion, ensuring that all attendees pick up fresh perspectives and engage in meaningful conversations with the speakers. Don’t miss out on this event — it is a fantastic opportunity to learn and engage!
