Psalm 135 — Silver and Gold

A chest in darkness, lit only by something within.

Your gods are made of silver, gold,
Their eyes are gems that cannot see;
They do not breathe or speak or hear:
The fruit of hands that trust in coin.

Your gods are made of silver, gold,
And all you see is power, wealth,
And this will be your heritage:
A cold and lifeless emptiness.

My God is not of silver, gold,
And Love will never let me down,
More precious than the rarest jewel,
Has chosen me as pride and joy.

Esther learned to read when she was four years old, and began writing shortly thereafter. She is a Canadian queer Christian poet, crafting with words to create art and music.
