An English Sonnet

I had a dream that I was at Your feet;
You took my hand and brought me to Your side;
I leaned against Your arm; we shared the seat;
You asked if I would sing for You. I tried,
But I was shaken by Your love for me:
My song was out of tune; I couldn’t show
You how I felt when I could only squeak,
But then You took my hand and said, “I know.
“I know your heart. I know your every deed;
“I know the things you’ve hidden deep within;
“I know your chains. Now know that you are freed,
“And know that who you are is not a sin.”
I will never be outcast, forsaken;
I will exalt You, Lord. I will be shaken.

Esther learned to read when she was four years old, and began writing shortly thereafter. She is a queer Christian poet, crafting with words to create art and music.
